We at Queen’s Gynecology have been seeing a spectrum of PCOD patients since a decade with a lot of variations in symptoms ranging from scanty periods, irregular cycles, mood swings, hirsuitism , hyperpigmentation , difficulty in loosing weight and acne. A lot of these patients , (especially the younger generation) reach us after showing unqualified people or taking products after seeing advertisement from various social media platforms which have no pharmacological efficacy .

We at Queen’s Gynecology , strongly recommend that any patient with any of the above symptoms should be seen by a gynaecologist only . The diagnosis of PCOD is a clinical one , ultrasound and biochemical markers help in supporting the diagnosis.

The decision to start any treatment , to give supplements should be based on the complete assessment by a certified gynaecologist.

Just to cite an example which we see in our OPD almost daily:

Thinning of hair due to the effects of male hormones (androgens) is called androgenic alopecia. It is a major source of psychological distress to women. This male-pattern hair loss is often seen in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and other disorders of male hormone excess.

A lot of patients spend a chunk of their time, money and efforts on hair products like oils, shampoos, gummies etc. without treating the root cause of androgen excess ( which is hormonal and not nutritional deficiency) only to realise, these treatments are ineffective and exhausting.

PCOS is a syndromic disease , the root cause is a skewered hormonal assay. It is correctable and symptoms can be reversed with appropriate medications. An open discussion with your Gynecologist helps in treating the root cause. For more information, stay tuned with us…
